Moissanite was born from a meteorite which felt in Arizona over 50,000 years ago. It was first discovered by the Nobel-Prize winner chemist Dr. Henri Moissan on a meteor crater in 1893. Dr. Moissan identified the crystals as a new mineral known as silicon carbide. Natural moissanite is extremely rare and almost impossible to find. For a century, the dream of using moissanite on jewelry was impossible, until scientists discovered a way to grow these incredible crystals in a lab.

No other gemstone compares to Moissanite. In fact, moissanite has nearly 2.4 times more fire and 10% more brilliance and luster than diamonds. With a Mohs scale hardness of 9.25, moissanite is harder than ruby, sapphire or emerald and second only to diamond. Our gems are extremely resistant to scratching, abrasion, breaking and chipping. Additionally, as a lab-grown gem, you do not have to worry about the ethical and environmental issues involved with mining.

THE MODERN CHOICE

Natural moissanite is incredibly rare, so moissanite available today is laboratory-created. After many years of trial and error, the particles Moissan discovered were successfully synthesized to produce what is now one of the world’s most scintillating gemstones.

Moissanite is engineered to give the illusion of similarity to diamonds, but is compositionally and visually quite different from a real diamond. The durability, brilliance, and color of the two gems are quite distinct. Because they are grown in controlled environments using advanced technology, moissanites require absolutely no mining to produce. Therefore, their origins are easily traceable.

Compared with natural gemstones, lab-grown moissanite has a smaller carbon footprint and result in less environmental impact. Fine jewelry made with moissanites and recycled metals is a responsible choice.

WHY BUY FROM US?

While diamonds are graded on the 4 C’s scale (Cut, Clarity, Color, Carat), moissanites are graded solely on color. The cut and clarity is similar across different qualities of moissanites. At EcoMoissanite, we offer Super Premium moissanites. Premium moissanites are colorless, falling within the D-F range.in color on the 4 C’s scale.
