Frequently Asked Questions
Moissanite was born from a meteorite which fell in Arizona over 50,000 years ago. It was first discovered by the chemist Dr. Henri Moissan on a meteor crater in 1893. Dr. Moissan identified the crystals as a new mineral known as silicon carbide. Natural moissanite is extremely rare and almost impossible to find. For a century, the dream of using moissanite on jewelry was impossible, until scientists discovered a way to grow these incredible crystals in a lab.
No other gemstone compares to Moissanite. In fact, moissanite has nearly 2.4 times more fire and 10% more brilliance and luster than diamonds. With a Mohs Scale hardness of 9.25, moissanite is harder than ruby, sapphire or emerald and second only to diamond. Our gems are extremely resistant to scratching, abrasion, breaking and chipping. Additionally, as a lab-grown gem, you do not have to worry about the ethical and environmental issues involved with mining.
